'The London Drummer Boy'
'The London Drummer Boy'
This track is my own 21st century-take on The Little Drummer Boy carol, first written and composed in 1941 by Katherine Kennicott Davis.
The inspiration for this song first came about after reading that The Tower of London was England's most haunted site.
I imagined the story of a young soldier boy — from many wars ago — appearing on Christmas eve to put a little of his own festive spirit into the end-of-year celebrations in one of the world's greatest cities.
Volume to MAX to put bass and beat into dancing toes!
---♫---
[CHORUS]
Rum-pa-pum-pum of the London ghost
a soldier boy with his Christmas cheer.
Rum-pa-pum-pum so true to his post
with a song at the end of the year.
-----
[VERSE 1]
Deep from underground
creeping up and over the river
comes a silent song of Christmas
bringing warmth to wintry shiver.
Big Ben rings the hour
a tune by misty light
as nightclubs beat their marching tune
through the fog of London's night.
Rum-pa-pum-pum of the London ghost
a soldier boy with Christmas cheer.
Rum-pa-pum-pum so true to his post
with a song at the end of the year.
Rum-pa-pum-pum of the London ghost
a soldier boy with Christmas cheer.
Rum-pa-pum-pum so true to his post
with a song at the end of the year.
[VERSE 2]
A young lad in shiny boots
black hat with a blood-stained coat
a Union Jack upon his heart
Rum-pa-pum-pum
going note for note.
The London Drummer Boy
by ol’ Tower Bridge he goes,
and we know where his drumbeat’s going
into the shuffle of dancing toes!
Drum-Drum-Drum-Drum-Drum-Drum-Drum
The Rum-pa-pum-pum of the London ghost
a soldier boy with Christmas cheer.
Rum-pa-pum-pum so true to his post
with a song at the end of the year.
Rum-pa-pum-pum
